Having your students complete I AM poems at the beginning of the year is a great opening activity for a new class of students. While not idea for early elementary students, they are a versatile assignment for the first week of school.
While I AM poems can easily be completed with paper and markers in the classroom and put up on the wall, a good extension of that activity can be to have the kids each type out their poem on a Google Presentation slide and then insert representative images. The Presentation can more easily be shared with parents to help build a stronger sense of community.
